HCA to break ground on Poinciana Hospital

Construction finally is slated to begin on the long-awaited hospital in Poinciana. But it will be smaller than expected.
The state on Jan. 5 gave health care giant Hospital Corp. of America the go-ahead to halve its plans for a new 60-bed hospital in Poinciana. Groundbreaking on a scaled-down, 30-bed version and a freestanding emergency department is set for Feb. 7.
In the short term, that means $48.7 million less in construction and other costs, and a reduction in the 286 jobs originally expected. But experts believe HCA will expand the facility as Poinciana grows.
